Moors & Coastal District Scout Camp 2017

Posted on 1 May 2017

This year’s District Scout Camp was held at Huish Woods from 28th April to 1st May.

Six Groups entered a total of eight Patrols for the camp, hoping to win a place to represent the District at the forthcoming Somerset County Banner Competition Camp in June.

The District Camp’s theme this year was Jungle.

Whilst it was primarily a competition camp, the Scouts still had time to enjoy some fun activities over the weekend. Our version of Angel Falls proved very popular, Scouts never miss an opportunity to get wet. The climbing wall also proved very popular, both going up and abseiling down the other side. There were also Woodland Crafts and Curling to take part in as well.

Saturday night was Disco Night, complete with flashing lights, lasers and smoke machine. Sunday evening we held a traditional Campfire despite the rain, which did nothing to dampen the fire or our spirits. Most Patrols performed a campfire stunt, competing for the new Best Campfire Performance Trophy.

On Monday morning (whilst one of the final marking sessions took place) the Scouts themselves asked for a Wide Game. The District Team with the help of the Young Leaders, demonstrating that we are a Youth Shaped movement, quickly arranged one.

Here is a list of the awards that were presented at the Closing Ceremony.

  • Gateway Competition – 1st Wedmore
  • Cooking Competition – 1st North Petherton
  • Best Campfire Performance – 1st North Petherton
  • Best Novice Patrol – 1st Wedmore
  • Best Patrol Site – 1st Bridgwater
  • District Shield – 1st Burnham-on-Sea (Shere Khan)

One Patrol from 1st Burnham-on-Sea and one Patrol from 1st Huntspill & Highbridge have been chosen to represent the District at the County Banner Competition Camp.
