50p per person to cover BBQ and drink

This year’s District Sandcastle Competition will be held on Thursday 5th September on Burnham-on-Sea beach near the jetty from 6:30pm – 8:30pm. The theme this year is Superheroes. We would love to see as many Young People and adults there as possible to build super sand sculptures.

Like last year we will be having a BBQ after the competition whilst the judging is taking place. However, this year we will have 3 different queues, one for each section. The cost of the event will be 50p per Young Person and no charge for Leaders. For this we will supply a drink and hot dog for each Young Person. Hand wash stations will also be provided.

Teams are to consist of up to 7 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Network or Adults. Please remember to bring your own buckets, spades, flags etc. and to wear uniform.

Leaders are not allowed to help the Young People with their Sandcastle but are more than welcome to enter their own team into the Leader’s competition.

Each section will need to have enough adults to cover their recommended ratio of adults to Young People, 1:6 for Beavers, 1:8 for Cubs and 1:12 for Scouts and Explorers, but will not need a Leader in Charge. You will also have to arrange your own In-Touch system and bring first aid kits.

Trophies will be awarded to the winning team in each section. If you have one of the trophies please email Jacob Beard to let him know and remember to bring it with you. Make sure you have the winning Group’s name engraved on the back and hand it to Jacob at the start of the competition.

To make this event possible we are going to need adults to volunteer, to help with the BBQ, man the hand wash stations and supervise the queues during the event. Please email Jacob if one of your Leaders or parents will be able to help. We are going to need at least 12 people whilst serving the BBQ so it would be great to have at least 1 person from each section. It doesn’t have to be a Leader, just a parent willing to come back 45 minutes before the end!

Please encourage your young people to arrive on time so that we can make a prompt start.

If the weather is poor, Jacob will email you all by 4pm on the day of the competition to let you know if competition is cancelled.

If you have any questions about the event please let me know.
