Somerset Scouts – County Scout Challenge 2021 – Saturday 13th November

Date: 13th November 2021 Location: Sections: Scouts

We would like you to encourage patrols of young people to join in this Annual Event for the Scout Section. For 2021, we are running this during daylight hours, as part of our plan to mitigate the risks associated with Covid-19 transmission at such an event. Next year, we hope to return to the night time format.

The Challenge will be taking place at Huish Woods Camp Site near Taunton.  The event is designed for Scouts of all ages to participate. Patrols will need to register between 9.30am and 10.45am.  The Challenge will then start at 11.00am. Scouts will be ready to leave by 5.00pm.

THE CHALLENGE

The challenge will involve the Patrols visiting a variety of bases located around the camp site. At each base they will complete a ‘Scout’ Challenge, which will be aligned to the Scout Section Programme.  Each base will last 20 minutes. The Patrol with the highest Score at the end of the evening will receive the County Challenge Trophy.

A maximum of 44 patrols will be able to enter the event.  Places will be allocated to the first 44 patrols to book in and pay in full.

COST

The cost will be £25.00 for each patrol taking part. This is to be paid at the same time as sending in the application form (attached below). Closing Date for the Challenge is Sunday 31st October 2021. Any applications received after this date can’t be accepted.

OTHER INFORMATION

Leaders are encouraged to come along with their Scouts and will be asked to help with the bases; they will not be allowed to accompany their Patrols during the Challenge. Points will be deducted for ‘Leader assistance’.

Please do make the organisers aware of any reasonable adjustments that need to be made for individual participants.  These will, of course, be happily met.

If any Troop wishes to camp at Huish Woods they will be more than welcome, please contact Huish Woods direct on 01823 480768.

Please ensure that you make appropriate arrangements with your patrol members to ensure that they arrive and participate in a Covid safe manner (socially distancing from other patrols, handwashing as necessary and bringing their own hand sanitisers etc).

HEALTH FORMS – ALL Scouts without exception must fill in a Health Form (attached below) and these must be returned with the application form by post.

RULES

Patrols must have a minimum of 4 Scouts and a maximum of 7 Scouts, aged between 10 and 14½ years old. As we are limited to 44 Patrols, Leaders are encouraged to maximise the size of their Patrols.

KIT

Scouts will need to bring hiking boots, wet weather clothes, packed lunch & a drink. Scout scarf is to be worn during the challenge. Hot dogs, sweets, and hot / cold drinks will be on sale during the event.

We look forward to seeing you all at the Challenge.  If further help or clarification is required, please do contact by email (details below).
